Cold and Dark Outside? Here's a few awesome indoor activities you can do at your next RA meeting.

   Human Tic-Tac-Toe...

This is a hilarious way to use as a recall activity. Start by making a series of questions that apply

Needed:
  • At least 10 players
  • Medium size area marked off with 2’ squares in the shape of a Tic-Tac-Toe board
  • Tape to mark off board
  • Series of questions that apply to your story (9 per game)

Preparation:
  1. Split class into two groups (5 per team)
  2. Elect one team captain per team
  3. The team’s captain is in charge of placing his members strategically on the board. In other words, he plays the game against the other team captain.
  4. The other members of the team are the “Playing Pieces” for the game board.
To Play:
  1. Game is played like traditional Tic-Tac-Toe.
  2. Team captain of selected team positions his first playing piece (one of the boys) somewhere on the board. Next, the playing piece must answer from the RA Leader, which was prepared prior to game. If the question is answered correctly, playing piece remains. If not, the playing piece is removed from the board, putting that team at risk of losing.
  3. The second team must do the same process and answer the same question.
  4. NOTE: Each team Captain can intervene one time per game on behalf of a playing piece that does not know the answer to his question. TIP: Save it for when you need it!
  5. First team to get three in a row wins the game.
  6. Boys will want to play this over and over, so have a lot of questions!!!

   Baseball Story Recall...

This is another great story recall activity. The kids really love this one. IT is similar to Bible Baseball, but a lot more fun…

Needed:
  • Pack of Index Note Cards (For Questions and Plays)
  • Dry Erase Marker
  • White Board

Preparation:
  • Batting Cards) Write the following on Index Cards
    • 5 cards with “Single”
    • 5 cards with “Double”
    • 5 cards with “Triple”
    • 3 cards with “Home Run”
  • On the other cards, write questions from your story (make plenty).
  • Draw a Ball Diamond on White Board with Bases Large enough to write a single set if initials to represent boy on base.
To Play:
  1. Divide boys into two teams. Even up the ages so it will be fair.
  2. Let boys come up with their own ball team name (optional)
  3. Team A starts play –
    • Player 1 Draws Batting Card
    • Leader Asks Question. If Player answer’s correctly, Leader writes boys initials on base completed, unless it’s a home run. If Player cannot answer, he’s out and Leader can choose to use the same question on next player or add question back to deck.
  4. Each Run scores as one point for team.

   Wheel of Fortune (sort of)...

This is another great Recall Activity you can apply to your lesson. However, there’s no actual wheel involved, nor is there a runway models flipping letters, but fun just the same.

Needed: (White Board and Markers)
Preparation:
  • Find a word or phrase from your Lesson
  • Mark “underlines” on the whiteboard, each representing the letter of the word or phrase
  • Write the vowels on a separate line (A, E, I, O, U)
  • Divide boys into two Teams.
  • Teams need to pick a captain. It makes it easier when one person on is designated spokesman (captain) for the team, otherwise it can get confusing. Instruct teams to decide together when they choose letters. The captain tells the RA Leader, which letter they have chosen.
To Play:
  1. Team "A" picks ONE free vowel. If incorrect, just continue play. There is no penalty. (Both Teams do this each turn until all vowels are gone).
  2. Now, Team "A" chooses ONE consonant. If incorrect, play go’s to Team B. However, if they are correct, they are allowed to choose another consonant
  3. First team to solve wins
  4. TIP: Use Phrases or Bible Verses to make it more challenging
